New for a New Year

2014 finds us with many good things planned for the site. A new selection of books is up, with   new quotes, links and articles on the way.   Our site has been invited to become a charter site of the Bible Gateway Blogger Grid and you can see the Bible Gateway logo on the sidebar.

We have many new articles already written, planned or arranged, some by familiar names and some by authors new to the site.   The first of these new articles should be up very soon, then we have more new material planned for every week of the year.  We hope that you will enjoy it, and that you will find it helpful in your Christian walk.

Although only three months old, our site is already
reaching a great many people and our goal is to increase its reach and impact throughout this coming year.  You can help by sharing the site with a friend and we hope that you will.

May you be blessed as you grow and serve throughout 2014!

Our Top Ten Posts in 2013

It seems that it is now de rigueur for blogs to give a list of the top 5, 10, or even 20 or more posts from the past year – those obtaining the highest number of pageviews or downloads.

For our own site, the winners are given below.  If you are new to the site, or missed any of these top ten posts along the way, check them out and enjoy:

The previous blog post, “A Direct Private Line,” is meant to be lightly written, and basic, but the points it makes are ones for which we can all be seriously thankful. I hope it gives you food for thought as you do “phone home.”

Speaking of phones, the TacticalChristianity.org webpages are optimized for viewing on phone size screens as well as on the computer, so  you can use your smart phone to check for new content or to catch up without feeling you are trying to navigate all over a large page with a small device.  If you are not using the site’s RSS feed to check for new content, setting your smart phone’s browser bookmark at the Blog page is probably the quickest way to see what’s new – and you can jump from here, of course, to  articles or other pages as you wish.   If you are like me, you may prefer to do most of your reading on a larger screen, but it’s good to know you can use your phone to  check out the latest blog posting while on your lunch break or to catch an article on the train commute!

Books Old And New

Books Old And New

One of the upgrades we gave the site this week is a new page: “Books in Brief.”  The books featured on this page will range from older classics, which deserve to be brought to the attention of those new in the walk, to more recent and new books you might have missed.   Every detail of the  theology and approach of some of these books may not be ours or yours, but all have something – and often a great deal – to offer.  There are so many thousands of books out there; we hope the new page will help you narrow down the list to ones that are particularly worthwhile. New (and old) books will be added periodically.

Speaking of books – check out this week’s short new article on the Tactical Christian Living page: “Give Yourself a Lift – Try a New Translation.

“In Quotes”

Good quotations are often similar to biblical proverbs:  short,  succinct statements which are easy to understand and to remember.  Often they just make a single small point, but sometimes they are “micro” sermons in themselves with clear relevance to Christian tactics and strategy.

This week we introduce a new feature to the site – a quotations page which will feature carefully selected quotes from a wide range of Christian authors.  While the inclusion of a quotation on the page does not imply that all the writings of the person quoted are recommended, each quote hopefully will have clear veracity and value.
New quotations will  normally be added to the page weekly.  Enjoy!

Better or Worse?

Our view of the world can impact our daily lives in many ways.  Do we see the world as getting constantly better or worse?  For Christians the question is a conundrum.  If we see the  world as getting worse by the day, we can suffer discouragement and fail to try to do good. If we see the world as improving steadily, we can fall into the other ditch and fail to take our part in fighting the problems seriously enough.

This  week, on the Strategic Understanding page,  we reproduce an editorial  column written a few  years ago by Calvin Burrell in the Bible Advocate.  Although not recent,  the article is as fresh as when it was written and deserves our attention today.   “I Think . . .”    looks at what is happening in the world around us and provides a wisely balanced and realistic understanding that can help us in answering the question “Are things getting better or worse – and what should we do about it?”
